2023 Vancouver Island Showdown Predictions

Canada’s first pro show of 2023 is upon us. The Vancouver Island Showdown is scheduled for Sunday, Apr. 23 in Victoria, BC. The all-women competition is going to feature IFBB Pro League athletes from Women’s Bodybuilding, Women’s Physique, and Wellness. Muscle Insider’s own Scott Welch will be in the house and sharing his expertise on the livestream pay-per-view as the emcee if you can’t be there yourself. You can tune in for the pay-per-view and witness the Vancouver Island Showdown from the comfort of your home with live coverage from 10:00 AM PST to 8:00 PM PST. Whether you're a die-hard fitness fanatic or simply looking for entertainment, this event will surely deliver. For more detailed pay-per-view info check out https://events.yaretv.com. In the meantime, here’s what we think will happen with all three pro contests this weekend.

Women’s Bodybuilding

  • Tananarive Efuru Huie
  • Shea Menchaca
  • Marcela Venegas Morales
  • Keisha Oliver
  • Melina Perron
  • Sherry Priami
  • Andrea Saurer
  • Julia Whitesel

There are eight pros entering this opening contest of the 2023 Women’s Bodybuilding season. None of them were in the 2022 Ms. Olympia, but the winner will earn a qualification for the 2023 Ms. Olympia in Orlando, FL this November.  Tananarive Efuru Huie is due for a win, and this could very well be when she finally achieves it. That’s how we have it playing out this Sunday, with Sherry Priami joining her on the podium in second place. The top three is a toss-up, but Canadian Melina Perron has as good of a shot as anyone to take that position.

Top 3:

Tananarive Efuru Huie

Sherry Priami

Melina Perron

Women’s Physique

  • Lisa Kudrey
  • Emilija Martic
  • Anne-Lorraine Mohn
  • Michele Steeves
  • Alejandra Chacon Velazquez

The Women’s Physique contest will likely come down to Anne-Lorraine Mohn and Lisa Kudrey. Mohn was seventh at the 2022 Ms. Physique Olympia contest, and winning here would lock up a qualification early so she can devote more time preparing for the 2023 contest. Emilija Martic will finish in the top three as well, we believe.

Wellness

  • Kassandra Gillis
  • Jennifer Zollars
  • Nicollette Burns

The Wellness competition has two athletes entered as of this writing, but one of them is the 2023 Wellness International Champion, Kassandra Gillis. Gillis won the contest at the Arnold Classic to become Canada’s first major Wellness champion. Zollars is an impressive athlete with lots of potential, but Gillis is on a roll right now, and we don’t see that changing here.

1. Kassandra Gillis

2. Jennifer Zollars
