Self Talk for motivation and protein rich diets

Talk to Yourself to Play Harder and Run Longer!

Those of you who have training partners know that phrases such as “You got this!” and “Lightweight!” are encouraging and help you push harder in the gym. But what if you could do this yourself? Researchers found that cyclists who uttered positive words and phrases to themselves (“self-talk”) while cycling were able to not only go longer but also reduce their feeling of fatigue and exhaustion more than those who just cycled without the self-talk. The difference between the experimental group and the control group was 12.5 minutes versus 7.9. That’s a lifetime of difference if you’re a serious athlete working at peak power output! So next time you’re in the gym, remember that you can scream at yourself for better results!

Protein-rich diet great not just for muscle mass but health too!

The prevailing thought among scientists and researchers (and personal trainers!) has been that the more overweight or underweight you were, the higher your mortality risk. Recently, researchers has come out in the American Journal of Medicine that it may not be overall body mass but rather body composition that makes a difference. Participants in the study were followed for approximately 10 years, and it was found that those with higher percentages of lean body mass (read: muscle) were 20 percent less likely to die than participants with little muscle mass. Why this is the case is still to be determined, but the point is, it is the case—so start lifting!
