Should I Supplement With Flaxseed Oil?

Q. In the mid ‘90s, you were one of the first in the industry to recommend using flaxseed oil in supplement stacks. Do you still advocate the use of flax?

A. I’m a big fan of fish oils since my reasons for recommending flax over fish are no longer valid. Back in the day, the production of fish oils for use as a supplement was not as well controlled. Flaxseed oil and fish oils often contained toxins such as PCBs and other compounds. But things change, and the quality of fish oil supplements across the product spectrum has vastly improved with the use of processing techniques such as molecular distillation and others, which produce very high-quality fish oil products. In fact, I actively recommend them, which is a good thing, considering how useful and healthy these products are. Personally, I use both since flax is still an excellent source of fat calories.
