Obsessed Fans And Bizarre Requests

Q. There seems to be this whole underworld of schmoes that put female bodybuilding in a negative light. What is the most bizarre request in this business that you’ve received from an obsessed fan?

A. Funny question! I have plenty of great stories in this regard, believe me, and not all of them can be written down here! As long as my fans are polite and keep their questions appropriate to the sport, I’m always happy to write them back. After all, we all have things we love in life, and if some of them like muscle, that’s fine. It’s the rude, inappropriate (usually sexual) questions that actually give them a bad name. They’re the ones who look like idiots for writing ridiculous questions to people they don’t know.

Years ago, one of my girlfriends was online dating and couldn’t believe the number of pictures she got from anonymous men of their private parts. We both just laughed at how ridiculous these men were. Simply put, I think that in every part of the world (and sport) there are people lurking who use their “keyboard warrior” status to live out their hidden fantasies. Unfortunately, we have to read (or see) their nonsense. Believe me guys, no woman wants to see your junk unless she’s asked for it specifically! Obviously, this industry gets its fair share as it is solely focused on the body and there is this underground muscle worship that other women have chosen.

I get requests for specific pictures, or crushing items (including their private parts), or various types of domination, offers of flights and travel. Marriage proposals go hand in hand with those. Believe me, my husband has nothing to worry about from those guys! My favorite (and harmless) emailer is a fan from France who sends me pictures of how incredibly large I am compared to him. I receive one each show I do. I am now known as the “sexy giantess of bodybuilding” by my friends!

Most of the emails are harmless and admiring; those that aren’t, I simply ignore. You can’t reward a person for bad behavior, so my approach is to keep it clean and focus on the positive. I’m an athlete and I’m here to promote a positive image for other women and girls, and that’s been my choice to do so. I don’t judge those who have made different choices, but I stay true to my personal convictions.
