Canadas Best Chances at the 2023 Wellness International

The Wellness International competition made its debut at the Arnold Classic in 2022, and it was considered a great success. Because of that, the 2023 edition of the contest is already highly anticipated. The excitement became mixed emotions for fans when they found out that defending champion Isabelle Nunes would have to sit out the show due to a knee injury.

While she will be missed by fans and competitors alike, it does guarantee that a second champion of the contest will be crowned in Columbus, Ohio on the weekend of March 2nd through 5th. Eight athletes are set to compete in the contest with hopes of standing alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger to receive the trophy and first place awards. One of those athletes will come from Canada – Kassandra Gillis. The full roster of athletes is below in alphabetical order.

  • Alexis Adams
  • Marissa Andrews
  • Sunny Andrews
  • Angela Borges
  • Amanda Burnett
  • Rayane Fogal
  • Kassandra Gillis
  • Andrea Hrenko
  • Canada’s Chances
  • Kassandra Gillis

Gillis placed fourth at the 2022 Olympia, which was a big jump from her 11th place finish in that contest in 2021. She placed sixth in the 2022 Wellness International, but she has three pro shows to her credit, including two Toronto Pro titles (2021 and 2022), and the 2021 Chicago Pro contest.

The only athlete in this show that beat Gillis at the Olympia was Angela Borges, who took third place. Borges did finish second in the 2022 Wellness International one year ago, while Gillis placed sixth. There’s a good chance that Borges and Gillis will be the final two standing waiting to hear their name after the phrase “and new.”

If Gillis makes the proper adjustments during her prep, and Borges is off the mark, there’s a good chance that Gillis could become Canada’s first Arnold Wellness winner. The win would also qualify her for the 2023 Olympia, which will take place in Orlando, FL this November. That said, she shouldn’t sleep on the rest of the field, either because it can be easy to slip from a top two finish to the bottom half of the field.
