How and Why the Dorian Yates (3rd) issue came about

Our third Canadian issue was released in the spring of 2011 at the very first Toronto Pro SuperShow and featured six-time Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates. At that time, we were featuring only Mr. Olympia winners on our front cover. We hired Dorian to appear at our booth at the Toronto Pro SuperShow, so it was only fitting to have the guy in the booth also be the guy on the front cover! Fans loved it and so did Breakfast Television, who brought Dorian on their morning show and displayed this cover of MUSCLE INSIDER for 30 seconds, which was seen by millions of people across Canada. This was one of the most incredible achievements in our company’s history. The issue was jam-packed with all the science MUSCLE INSIDER is known for, with top writers such as Charles Poliquin, Dr. Layne Norton, Dr. Scott Connelly, Bryan Haycock, Patrick “The Chemist” Arnold, Vince Andrich, Lyle McDonald, Chad “Diet Doctor” Nicholls, Mark Gilbert, Don Gauvreau, Dan Kennedy, Laura Creavalle, Zoa Linsey, Lauren Jacobsen, and more! This issue also included a feature on the controversial “12-Hour Blitz” training method. This insane workout was originally pioneered in the 1980s by Gunnar Sikk and was used to shock lagging body parts into growth. The only catch is that it requires you to train for over 12 hours in one day! It sounds bizarre, but so does shaving off all your body hair, painting yourself with tanning dye, rubbing yourself in oil, and flexing in front of 500 men, women, and children! This issue also marked the addition of Associate Publisher Janet Lok, an advertising and sales veteran from the mainstream ad agency world. She would prove invaluable to the sales growth and quality of MUSCLE INSIDER in the issues to come.
